Travel Insurance and pre-existing conditions. |
Do I qulify for travel insurance if I have a pre-existing condition ?Most of the times, travellers with pre-existing conditions will be able to apply for a travel insurance policy, but that does not mean that pre-existing conditions don’t complicate the process. Buying travel insurance while with pre-existing condition coverage will be more expensive, and more troublesome..
Pre-existing conditions and different travel insurance policies:Medical Travel Insurance:In case you have a pre existing medical condition you are going to have a harder time purchasing a medical travel insurance if you are travelling abroad, but that does not mean it’s impossible. Once purchased, a good travel insurance will provide protection against medical emergencies, in spite of your pre-existing condition, trip cancellation and even stolen luggage. Single Trip Travel Insurance:While travelling alone you will have to be cleared for travel when the travel insurance is obtained and not at a later date. In case you do not report your pre-existing medical condition to the travel insurance company you will not be covered if something were to happen. You will be able to purchase single trip travel insurance once you report the pre existing condition. Flight Accident Travel Insurance:Travel insurance with flight accident coverage will not affect you purchasing travel insurance even if you have a pre-existing condition. In any case, the travel insurance company has to be made aware of your pre existing medical condition and also you have to be declared fit for travel before you can purchase travel insurance. Failure to report will lead to the policy being completely void. Rental Car Policy:Getting a rental car while travelling abroad should not be affected by a pre-existing condition if that same condition does not prevent you from driving in your home country. Any type of condition that proves to be dangerous while driving will make it harder to get a car rental policy. Annual Insurance:Purchasing annual travel insurance will provide to be more complicated If you have a pre existing condition as annual insurance provides coverage for prescritpion medication, pregnancies, maternity related situations plus all other medical needs. Annual Insurance will be more expensive with a pre-existing condition and it usualy takes at least a year before you can apply for an extension. Pre-existing conditions are indeed sometimes an impediment for purchasing travel insurance, but as you can see, most types of coverage are either a bit more expensive, or are not affected at all by the travellers pre existing condition.
