Baggage & Money Cover from your travel insurance
Baggage cover is a travel insurance addition that protects your baggage and contents while travelling. Your baggage and personal possessions can be lost, stolen or damaged anytime, anywhere in the world. Losing your luggage is at best inconvenient and at worst costly, but it is not the end of the world, especially if you have the right travel insurance.

Typically, baggage cover can help if:
• You lose passport documents stored inside your bags (If you should lose your passport while abroad most policies will compensate for the extra accommodation required while you obtain a replacement) • Your baggage gets delayed • Your luggage goes missing • A personal item is lost, stolen or damaged whilst you’re away.
Researches show that your travel insurance policy will pay out an average of £200 for bags that have been missing for 48 hours. If your luggage is declared permanently lost,

you can receive up to a maximum of £2,500, though most travel insurers will pay between £1,500 and £2,000. But, you might already have cover for your personal belongings whilst abroad under your contents insurance policy, so it’s worth checking beforehand rather than paying for the same thing twice. If you are able to exclude baggage and personal belongings cover from your travel insurance, you could save around 25% on your policy. It is also important to take care of your belongings when travelling abroad as insurers will be unwilling to pay out if you have been careless. Remember to only take valuable items if absolutely necessary, and if your hotel or room has a safe, use it!
Personal money cover
Personal money tends to mean bank notes, currency notes and coins in current use, travellers' and other cheques, postal or money orders, pre-paid coupons or vouchers, travel tickets, event and entertainment tickets, phone cards, money cards and credit/debit or pre-pay charge cards all held for private purposes.
While most insurance policies will compensate very well for lost or delayed baggage, they may be slightly more limiting when claiming for personal possessions or cash. Most travel insurance policies do not provide "new for old" as is standard with most household insurance, rather, they cover the value of the item at the time it is lost or stolen.
You will be covered for loss or theft of cash up to a certain value. Different levels of policy insure different values. Often total values covered are from £250 - £500 with a large proportion of this for cash losses. It is recommended that you take travelers cheques with you and carry only a small amount of cash at all times to minimize your risk.
Credit cards may be covered under your household contents insurance, and some have their own insurance policies associated with them. These insurance policies may be slightly limited when it comes to travel so be sure to check that you have adequate insurance and take out extra if you need to.
Personal money tends to be excluded from a policy if it is left unattended at any time (including in vehicles, checked luggage or in the custody of a carrier, tour or public transport operator) unless in a hotel safe, safety deposit box or in locked accommodation.
