Reasons why NOT to buy travel insurance. |
Most of the times, travellers think that the money they spend on travel insurance could be spent on other, more important things. Travel insurance for them is just another thing to take care of before departing for the trip, that has no use if you pay attention and keep it safe. The truth is, some times these people are right, travel insurance is not always necessary. The decission wether to buy or not travel insurance before a trip depends on many factors, the type of trip, number of persons or length of the trip, and most of the times it just comes down to being able to avoid trouble.
Most travel insurance policies with medical coverage only provide protection within a certain medical network. The cost of medical care outside that covered network will cost more. Travel insurance will not be needed if you travel to a country where the insurance does not cover the medical costs and you can afford these costs without the insurance policy. 2. Travel insurance is not required if the traveller does not mind if his trip is delayed. Travelling with family or friends , when a travel schedule does not need to be followed may not be affected by a delay as much as a business traveller would. Travel insurance with trip cancellation and delay coverage should be purchased only if there are severe consequences for missing the trip such as remibursement for the lodging or transportation costs. 3. Travel insurance with pre-existing conditions coverage is not important when everyone in your party is healthy. In this case, there is probably no need for trip cancellation or interruption coverage. This however does not mean that medical coverage is not needed. Although the whole party is perfectly healthy before the trip, accidents or illness can still be something that needs to be taken care of. 4. Baggage loss coverage is not needed if you are able to carry your baggage with you on board the flight. This way, you have nothing to worry about your baggage getting lost or stolen. Being in control of your own luggage will also avoid problems such as baggage delays at the airports or theft in crowded places. In this case, the trip cancellation does not concern the traveller, and there is no reason for him to purchase travel insurance because because he will not need reimbursement for the pre-paid trip costs. These are some of the reasons where buying travel insurance is not needed, but the decission rests in the hand of each traveller.
