How to find the best single trip travel insurance
The many insurance companies offer a variety of single trip travel insurance policies with differing levels of cover, so you can choose the cover that's right for you. However, while there are many types of policy which cater for a specific need, such as winter sports or travelers with a medical history, single trip insurance provides a basic cover for those going on holiday or for short trips abroad..
• Medical and health cover for an injury or sudden illness abroad
• 24 hour emergency service and assistance. • Personal liability cover in case you’re sued for causing injury or damaging property. • Lost and stolen possessions cover. • Cancellation and curtailment (cutting short your trip) cover. • Extra cover for activities that are commonly excluded from standard policies, such as jet skiing. The policy should cover the whole time that you’re away. Your policy may also have: • personal accident cover • legal expenses cover • financial protection if your airline goes bankrupt before or during your trip. Single trip policies can often be changed around a great deal depending on the particular needs and requirements of the traveler. For example, for those planning on going on a budget holiday with little in the way of valuables, it may not be necessary to take out baggage and personal money cover. Or if booking your trip at the last minute, then it may not be necessary to take out cancellation cover. If the provider offers the option of taking off any types of cover, then the premium will come down accordingly.
Try and select the right level of cover. Deciding on the best policy depends on where you are travelling and for how long and the types of activities you will be doing when away. Don't over-insure because it is unlikely the insurance company will pay out as much as you expect anyway and there is little point in paying extra for a policy that will not pay out at as high a level as you expect. However, neither should you under-insure yourself as if you do need to make a claim you'll want to get back an amount that will cover your loss.
Once your risks are identified so that selecting the right policy with the right cover for you has been completed, we come to the negotiations on price. Never accept the first quote you receive. Insurance brokers and sellers of policies are trained to earn their companies money.
