Top Secret Beaches In and Around Sydney Australia |
Sydney beaches like Bondi and Manly are great for families and for fun in the sun, but sometimes you just want to walk on a secluded beach by yourself or want to have a romantic afternoon at the beach together. How do you do that in a bustling metropolis like Sydney? It’s easier than you think. These beaches are not “Top Secret” – they’re the best secret beaches in Sydney and you’re welcome to explore them.
Camp Cove, Watson’s Bay:Watson’s Bay is an exclusive neighborhood whose shoresare lined with multi-million dollar homes. Camp Cove is a “secret” the locals are happy to share with those who are lucky enough to stumble across it. Located at the end of Cliff Street in Watson’s Bay, it is a small, intimate cove that’s just perfect for relaxing in the sun in peace. Also known as Lady Bay Beach, Camp Cove is just a short distance from the larger Watson’s Bay Beach, where you’ll see million dollar yachts bobbing up and down just off the beach. Also known as Lady Bay Beach, Camp Cove is just a short distance from the larger Watson’s Bay Beach, where you’ll see million dollar yachts bobbing up and down just off the beach.Jibbon Beach, Bundeena:Just south of Sydney, Jibbon Beach, in the Royal National Park, is arguably Sydney’s most secret beach. You have to pay for the privilege of getting there, because there is park entry fee, but it’s worth it. This north facing, crescent shaped beach is usually sheltered from both the southerly winds and the southerly swells that can spoil a day at so many of Sydney’s beaches. Because you’re in a National Park, you are surrounded by nature. If you want to get away from it all for a day, head for Jibbon Beach. Ask for directions at the park headquarters in Bundeena.
Congwong Beach, La Perouse:La Perouse is the last Sydney suburb south before Botany Bay carves its niche into the Sydney landscape, dividing Sydney from the Royal National Park. Congwong Beach, just off Anzac Parade is so close to Jibbon Beach, you could almost swim there, but it’s nearly an hour’s drive away. In many ways, it is a mirror image of Jibbon Beach, but in other ways it is quite different. From the beach, you’ll see a mixture of nature and giant tankers and container ships making their way into and out of Botany Bay. One of the most unique beaches you’ll ever go to, it also makes a nice respite from the “madding crowds” of Sydney. Bronte Beach, Sydney:Bronte Beach is not a secret beach to Sydneysiders by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s amazing how few overseas visitors discover it. An upmarket suburb just south of Bondi, the best way to find Bronte is to take the beautiful Bondi to Bronte cliff walk. Start at the southern end of Bondi Beach near the Bondi Icebergs pool and you will find the wide, well maintained trail. It’s not a long walk, but you will probably find yourself taking your time, because the views along the way are so beautiful. Once you’re at Bronte, stop for lunch at one of the lovely al fresco cafes in the village and don’t be surprised if an Australian celebrity is dining at the next table over.
